Can my child benefit from OT?

Occupational therapy (OT) can provide exercises and strategies to improve infant/toddler and childhood development, prewriting skills, fine motor development, handwriting, emotional regulation, bilateral coordination, executive functioning and social skills to name a few. OT can also help with sensory integration. The sensory processing system is part of the central nervous system and when regulated, can help the child interact with and be successful in their environment.

The dysregulated student might exhibit the following:

  • Fidgets during learning time

  • Distracts others

  • Chews on their shirt/pencils

  • Messy eater

  • Gets too close to others

  • Makes noises during learning time

  • Covers ears with unexpected noises

  • Avoids swinging/movement

  • Seeks movement

  • Disorganized and scattered

  • Poor body awareness

  • Poor time management

  • Poor social skills

"Kara is a great occupational therapist! She's very knowledgeable, friendly and personable. She always has great ideas to help her clients achieve their goals. Every day household objects that you wouldn't think to use. We love her!”

"Kara was my son Raiden's occupational therapist. She was always so kind and patient with him during his sessions. No matter how stubborn he was. She was able to keep his attention and help him reach his goals and milestones with ease. She was able to explain/show Raiden in a way that he understood, rather then just place something in front of him to accomplish without explanation. I appreciated that so much because Raiden is the type of kid where you have to slowly explain while showing him the action that needs to be met. At the end of each session I always asked for what to work on at home and she would give me some "homework" to have him practice. She was such a light every time we saw her. Thank you for guiding and helping my sweet boy, & for taking such great care of him during his sessions. Your new kiddos are so lucky to have you as their therapist.”

“Kara is the very best OT that we have ever worked with. She enters a room like the sun and my children squeal with delight in seeing her at the beginning of a session. She creatively uses the tools she has and tools around her in many different ways to inspire and achieve long term and short term OT goals. She is a clear communicator, she pushes my children and also celebrates their big and small victories with us all. She is all heart and has taken on our goals as if her own so that our children have truly blossomed under her tutelage. We are so grateful for her therapy, her teaching and her friendship. I couldn’t possibly say enough wonderful things about Miss Kara!”
